found the proof in the first edition of the reports and in the introduction it states, "these colored plates were made by Mr. Sherman F. Denton of Wellesley, Mass., from living or fresh specimens." These plates are rarer and more colorful then his (Denton's) later work (New York Fisheries Reports) that you see every day on E-bay; however, not many people know the value of these earlier works yet.
